When it comes to exercise there are a few basic principles. The one we hear most: 'move more, eat less'. But what does this actually mean in practice?
The answer: find what works for you - your life, your schedule, your goals, your family, your preferences - these things make up who you are. Not everybody is the same and not everybody is going to enjoy the same stuff in the gym. There is more than one way to get in shape!
My advice is to stop looking for the 'secret sauce' and just start doing what you like and can stick with. If you can find something you enjoy and are consistent with, you'll be better off. 100% adherence to an 'okay' exercise programme brings better results than 50% adherence to a 'great' one.
Stick with the basics: lift some heavy weights a few times a week, stretch, get outdoors for a walk. Use consistency for progress, variety for plateaus, and throw in a few random activities to keep it interesting.
Focus on foods that are high in protein. Go ahead and have some carbs. Limit ice cream.
Fitness is something to enjoy, like love and fried chicken (sometimes). So don't waste your time sitting around.
Your body is precious and so is how you feel about yourself. You are, and deserve to be, strong and confident.
